Moses’ Realization: Begin with Christ, the Only Way of God
In the wilderness of Midian, where Moses had lived forgotten for forty years, God called him and gave him the mission of leading the Exodus.
The bush that seemed worthless and ordinary became a burning flame that did not go out – the flame of God’s unending promise.
It was a fire declaring God’s presence to walk the journey of the gospel with the past as the grace of God, the present with God’s companionship, and setting hope on the future.
God’s request for the journey of the gospel was clear and singular:
"Offer sacrifices to the LORD God – the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the self-existing God I AM.”
To overcome the oppressive field of Egypt, to cross the Red Sea, to endure the barren wilderness, to receive water and food along the way, and to overcome the beasts of the desert, Moses realized one thing:
All else was unnecessary except the only one method God had given – to begin with the Messiah Christ promised in Genesis 3:15.
True liberation begins when Jesus Christ, who came as the sacrificial offering for our Exodus, becomes our starting point.
Even if Pharaoh’s resistance grows fierce, do not compromise.
The mighty hand of the LORD God will crush the forces of Satan that stand in the way of the gospel.
The sacrificial offering God required of Moses was the blood covenant between God and us.
When we decide to begin properly with that sacrifice and challenge to set out on the gospel journey, the blood covenant established between God and us assures that the love of Jesus Christ's cross and the power of his resurrection will forever be with us so that we will experience true freedom. Amen!
(Exodus 3:1–22)
