The Essence of the Sabbath: Life and Rest Over Rules
Does a person exist for the sake of rules?
Or do rules exist for the sake of the person?
The world establishes rules, then condemns and criticizes.
But the gospel values a person’s life above any rule.
The language of Satan kills people, but the language of the gospel is the language of life that saves lives.
As Jesus and his disciples walked through the grainfields on the Sabbath, the disciples picked some heads of grain to satisfy their hunger.
Seeing this, the Pharisees sharply condemned them for doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.
But Jesus said, “I am the Lord of the Sabbath.”
A church that clings to rules and rituals while losing the essence of the Sabbath that gives life and rest will inevitably collapse.
When Jesus—the Lord of the Sabbath—becomes our Christ, there is no condemnation.
The meaning of the Sabbath is to breath and rest, not being stressed by harsh rules.
Even David entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread that only the priests were allowed to eat, and he shared it with those who were with him.
Yet God did not punish him, but established him as a great king.
David, who broke the regulation for the sake of his starving men yet was not punished, praised the grace of God:
“My heart is glad, my tongue rejoices, and my body also will rest in hope.”
God is not the One who seeks to punish us.
He loved us and gave His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, so that we would not perish but have eternal life.
When Satan—disguised as an angel of light— instigates competition and division, drive out darkness, emptiness, and chaos in the name of Jesus Christ who came to us as the Word became flesh, as the Messiah of Genesis 3:15 who crushed Satan's head.
Then, even in an age with no “safe zones,” you will experience the invisible guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit, gain fundamental spiritual strength, and enjoy blessings with no competitors. Amen!
